On Friday evening, a seven-year-old boy fell into an open drain while attempting to catch a kite in the Welcome area of Northeast Delhi. A police official reported that a search and rescue operation was initiated after receiving information about the incident, but it had to be suspended later due to darkness.
According to the official, the incident occurred near the wooden market bridge where the boy was playing. The identity of the child has not yet been disclosed. The official stated, 'We received a report about a child falling into the drain in the evening. A team quickly arrived at the scene and discovered that the boy had fallen while chasing a kite.'
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was notified, and a search and rescue operation commenced with the assistance of local divers and firefighters. However, the official mentioned that the operation was halted in the late evening due to poor visibility.
The official added, 'The search will resume on Saturday morning with additional manpower and equipment.' Efforts are being made to stop the flow of water in certain sections of the drain to aid the search operation.
